Coming from imgix

Moving from imgix

imgix and this edge work the same way: both fetch from an origin you already run. Moving is a hostname change and a handful of renamed parameters.

What is different

An imgix Web Folder source fetches from your server and transforms by query string. So does this edge, so your images stay where they are and most URLs keep their parameters: w, h, q, dpr, bri, con, sat and gam have the same names.

Moving, step by step

  1. Create an account and set your origin to the base URL your imgix source fetches from.
  2. Replace the imgix hostname with your delivery hostname, or point your own domain at it with a CNAME.
  3. Rename the parameters in the table below. Most templates need only auto=format and fit changed.
  4. Re-sign any signed URLs with a key from the console: the signing recipe is different.

imgix parameters, and what to use here

imgix ZawCloud Notes
w, h w, h Same names.
auto=format f=auto AVIF, then WebP, from the Accept header.
auto=compress q=auto Picks the lowest quality that still measures as the same image, per image.
fm f avif, webp, jpeg, png or gif.
q, dpr q, dpr Same names. dpr=auto reads the browser's client hints.
fit=crop fit=cover
fit=clip, fit=max fit=contain Never enlarges, like max.
fit=scale fit=fill Stretches to the box.
fit=fill with fill-color fit=pad, bg
crop=focalpoint, fp-x, fp-y fp One value: fp=0.3,0.6.
rect crop x,y,w,h in pixels of the original.
trim=auto, trim-tol trim, trimtol
rot rotate Multiples of 90 only.
flip flip h, v or hv.
bri, con, sat bri, con, sat Same names, −100 to 100.
gam gam A factor from 0.1 to 10, where 1 is unchanged, not −100 to 100.
blur blur 0 to 100, so values need rescaling.
sharp sharpen On or off, without a strength.
monochrome grayscale Grey only, not a tint.
mask=ellipse mask=circle
mask=corners, corner-radius radius One radius for all four corners.
border border width,colour.
txt, txt-align watermark, wmpos
mark, mark-align, mark-alpha, mark-w overlay, opos, oopacity, osize The overlay is a path at the same origin; its width is a percentage of the shorter edge.
palette=json, fm=json info Size, colours, both placeholder hashes and a tiny preview.
fm=blurhash blurhash Returned as JSON.
crop=faces ai_crop=face With the AI add-on.
bg-remove ai_remove_bg With the AI add-on.
upscale ai_upscale 2x or 4x, with the AI add-on.
auto=enhance ai_enhance With the AI add-on.
s, expires sig, exp, kid HMAC-SHA256 over a different canonical form, so URLs must be re-signed.

What has no equivalent here

  • Video, and output that moves.
  • Rotation by angles other than multiples of 90.
  • Text in a chosen font, and multi-line text blocks.
  • Rendering pages of a PDF.
